UMBC professor Manil Suri defends the thesis of his new book, The Big Bang of Numbers: How to Build the Universe Using Only Math, by answering questions posed by an interdisciplinary panel of faculty.  His "thesis committee" includes:

  • Dr. Preminda Jacob, Visual Arts
  • Dr. Kathleen Hoffman, Math & Biology
Dr. William LaCourse, Dean of the College of Natural and Mathematical Sciences, will introduce the defense. Reception and book-signing to follow All are welcome!

Manil Suri is a distinguished university professor in mathematics at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. He is the author of three award-winning novels, including The Death of Vishnu, which have been cumulatively translated into 27 languages. He is a former contributing opinion columnist at the New York Times, for which he has written several essays on mathematics. His new book, The Big Bang of Numbers: How to Build the Universe Using Only Math will be available for purchase and signing at the event.
