UMBC's CYBR program and the UMBC Center for Cybersecurity welcomes Joe Grand for a virtual lecture/discussion in CYBR 644! Joe will be talking about his decades-long journey in the cybersecurity industry, lessons learned along the way, and offer an in-depth look into how he was able to 'ethically hack' into a Bitcoin wallet to recover $2 million for an individual.

Also known as Kingpin, Joe was a member of the legendary hacker group L0pht Heavy Industries, where he helped raise awareness of the hacker ethos and the importance of independent security vulnerability research. As part of L0pht's history-making visit to Congress in 1998, Grand testified before the U.S. Senate Committee on Governmental Affairs [1,2regarding government and homeland computer security under his internet handle, Kingpin. More recently, he has brought engineering to the masses as a co-host of Discovery Channel's Prototype This! which follows the real-life design process of a unique prototype every episode.
