Biography
Dr. Ram P Rustagi is currently working as a Professor in the CSEE Department at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, Maryland. He honed his academic skills with a Ph. D from IIT Delhi, India and a M. Tech from IISc Bangalore., India. At UMBC, Dr. Rustagi teaches both undergraduate and graduate students in the area of Computer Network, and Security. He is instrumental in setting up Cyber Range at UMBC, which provides a sandbox environment where students can conduct real-time experiments and carry out hands-on exercises related to Computer Security, Networking, as well as other areas of Computer Science. Prior to UMBC, he was the Department Chair of AI/ML Dept at KS Institute of Technology, Bangalore, India. He also advised a technology startup in the area of Air Pollution, where he mentored new technology development using Machine Learning techniques. His previous engagements cover senior positions in engineering in various startup technology companies in the U.S. and India. The professional spectrum of 35+ years consists of Academic Institutes, and technology startups as well as large companies. He is a recent recipient of the USISTEF (United States India Science and Technology Fund 2024), sponsored by the Governement of India and the National Science Foundation, in joint collaboration with Personal Air Quality Systems Bangalore, to work on developing the “Hyper Local Air Quality – AI Enabled Context Aware Content System”. In the past, he has received ACM Compute 21 Best Teaching Award and a fellowship from the United Nations Development Program. His interests are in Network, Security, and AI-enabled learning.
