Palm-sized air-deployed robot for mobile sensing

ARL Summer Student Team Research

Summer 2022 Topic: Palm-sized air-deployed robot for mobile sensing

The Army Research Laboratory and Maryland Robotics Centerseek a team of undergraduate students to conduct research to develop the hardware design, controls,  and autonomy of a legged robotic platform that can survive harsh landings and maintain mobility. Students will (1) develop robot morphology and external landing structures; (2)  develop, program, and test control strategies to survive ground impact and maintain mobility; and (3) develop sensing, networking, and communication systems for ground-level observation.

Students with backgrounds in hardware design, mechatronics, controls, sensing, and/or networking are highly desired.

  • 10-week paid internship during summer 2022
  • Co-advised by UMD faculty and ARL researchers
  • Experimental demonstration at an ARL facility
  • ARL facility tours and networking opportunities

ELIGIBILITY:

  • Must be a US citizen to participate
  • Undergraduates in the University System of Maryland
  • Women and minority applicants are strongly encouraged to apply
  • Open to all STEM disciplines
